2/02/2010 Shooting on Monroe St.
Marcus Lewis 25 Years of Age
Shortly after 9:00 AM on Tuesday Morning, February 2nd, 2010, Officers of the Borger Police Department responded to the 600 Block of Monroe Street in reference to a 911 call for service regarding a Disturbance in Progress. As Officers arrived on scene, Officers located 25 year old Marcus Lewis, of Borger, standing outside in the street in front of the residence. Mr. Lewis was holding a firearm. When confronted by Police Officers, Mr. Lewis laid down the pistol and was taken into custody.
Once Mr. Lewis was taken into custody and secured, Officers began conducting the preliminary investigation into the incident. During the investigation, Officers located two injured victims inside of the residence. The victims were later identified as Karen Holland, 54 years of age, of Borger, and John Holland, 77 years of age, of Borger. The investigation revealed that
all three people resided at the residence. Mr. Lewis is the grandson of the
For undetermined reasons, which are still being investigated, Mr. Lewis attacked Mr. Holland. In an attempt to assist Mr. Holland, as he was being attacked and assaulted, Mrs. Holland retrieved a firearm from within the residence and fired a single shot at Mr. Lewis causing minor injury to Mr. Lewis. Mr. Lewis then directed his attention towards Mrs. Holland. Mr. Lewis then assaulted Mrs. Holland and took the gun from her. Mr. Lewis then exited the residence with the gun. When Mr. Lewis got to the street, Mr. Lewis turned back towards the residence and fired a single shot back at the residence. At this point in time is when BPD Officers arrived on scene and took Mr. Lewis into custody.
Mr. Holland was flown to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with serious injuries due to being assaulted by Mr. Lewis. However, Mr. Holland was listed in stable condition.
Mrs. Holland initially refused medical treatment, but was later admitted to
Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with an apparent broken bone.
Mr. Lewis refused medical treatment, as his injuries appeared to be
superficial. Mr. Lewis was transported to the Borger Police Department where he was processed and incarcerated. Mr. Lewis was charged with the following:
Injury to Elderly Serious Bodily Injury (First Degree Felony)
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Interference with a 911 Call
On Wednesday morning, February 3rd, 2010, Mr. Lewis was arraigned on all charges and received a bond totaling $63,000.00.
After bond was set, Mr. Lewis was transported to the Hutchinson County Jail in Stinnett where he remained incarcerated.
Further investigation into this incident is still being conducted by the Borger Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
