4/21/2011 - Man Arrested and Charged for Murder of Elderly Borger Woman

 On Thursday morning April 21st, 2011 at approximately 11:14 am, Borger Police Officers were dispatched to 120 Garrett Street, Borger, Texas in reference to an Unattended Death.  The call for service was called in to the Borger Police Department Dispatch by a citizen from Meals on Wheels that delivers food to the elderly.  Once Officers arrived on scene, they discovered the deceased, identified as Lois Kimbrell, 97 years of age, inside of the residence, where she resided alone.  The residence belonged to the deceased and is also where she had resided for the past few decades.  Upon initial investigation into the scene, circumstances led Officers to believe that this was a suspicious death.  Detectives from the Borger Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene to investigate the death further.  Upon the Detectives initial investigation, it was decided to contact the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation due to the extent of the investigation and the need for extra manpower of an incident of this scope.  An autopsy was also scheduled and performed on the morning of Friday April 22nd, 2011.  Upon further investigation into the incident and obtaining the preliminary autopsy results, the incident was classified as a Homicide and begun investigated as such. 

Over the last five days, an extremely extensive, precise, and lengthy investigation was conducted by the Borger Police Department and Texas Rangers.  The investigation came to an end and was concluded on Tuesday April 26th, 2011.

On Tuesday April 26th, 2011, at approximately 6:00 pm, Borger Police and Texas Rangers arrested 47 year old Gregorio Felan for the Murder of Lois Kimbrell.  Felan, who was a nearby neighbor to the victim, was processed at the Borger Police Department on the charge of Murder, which is a Felony of the 1st Degree.  Once processed, Felan was brought before a Judge and arraigned.  Bond was Denied for Felan.  Felan was later transported to the Hutchinson County Jail in Stinnett where he was incarcerated.

Police Chief Jimmy Adams of the Borger Police Department stated that due to the diligence, hard work, and professionalism of the members of the Borger Police Department and Texas Rangers that this Investigation was so promptly solved with the perpetrator securely jailed.  Chief Adams extended his thanks and gratitude for the hard work of the members of the Borger Police Department and Texas Rangers for an outstanding coordinated combined effort in the resolve and conclusion to this tragic incident and crime.  Chief Adams also wanted to thank the Citizens of the City of Borger for their tips and assistance throughout this investigation.
